Woodbridge on the Derwent offers unique, luxury riverfront accommodation, steeped in history and defined by gracious hospitality. Woodbridge is Tasmania’s only Small Luxury Hotel of the World, Tasmania’s only accredited 5 Star Hotel, and was listed as one of Australia’s Top 10 Luxury Hotels by Business Review Magazine.

Woodbridge on the Derwent is a boutique Heritage-listed historic hotel with 8 luxury accommodations. All are in the original Mansion and have river views. Each room has its own unique character, seamlessly blending 200 year old blackwood floors and original multi-pane windows with modern furniture and amenity. Upstairs has higher ceilings, and downstairs has lower ceilings and stonewalled corridors. Woodbridge is not set up to accommodate babies and young children, but ‘young adults’ will feel right at home. Rooms and Suites accommodate a maximum of 2 persons. Woodbridge values its staff, and in line with OHS guidelines, staff are not permitted to carry luggage in excess of 20kilograms. Please be aware that Woodbridge is a Heritage-listed building and there are no lifts.

Capt Roadknight Queen Room – Easy Access

31 sq m – Named after Capt. Roadknight, the first Constable of the fledgling colony and the original builder of Woodbridge in 1825, this Room is on the Entry Level. It has easy access from the main entrance, and a very open plan bathroom with wide shower, which makes it an ideal choice for guests with mobility constraints. It is a lovely bright, spacious room with high ceilings and tall windows, and looks down onto the Garden Terrace and river. It features an original wardrobe with wooden hooks. The Roadnight combines well with The Three Bridges, The Sarah Schaw or The Sharland nearby for groups or families.

Lindley Queen Room – Terrace

30 sq m – Named after the second owner of Woodbridge, this lovely hexagonal room is in the central Tower, down 15 steps on the lower level with the charm of stone walls and lower ceilings. The Lindley was originally a carriage entrance and has an arched internal doorway and a large arched window behind the bed. It opens into a Wisteria Pergola Terrace overlooking the river. The Lindley combines well with The Arches or The Alloway Banks nearby, for groups or families.
Usually 2 night minimum stay is required.

Academy Queen Room

36 sq m – The Academy celebrates Woodbridge’s time as a Young Gentlemen’s Academy. This Room is on the Entry Level but has 2 well worn wooden steps up into the room. It is a delightful bright room with high ceilings and tall windows, and looks down onto the Garden Terrace and river, with the bed on an elevated platform offering magnificent river views from bed. The Academy combines well with the nearby Sharland or the Alloway Banks for groups or families.

Sharland Premier Queen Room

40 sq m – This Room is named after the third owner, William Sharland, Assistant Surveyor General, explorer and innovator, gentleman farmer, whose family called Woodbridge home for several generations. This Room is on the Entry Level and is easily accessible from the main entrance. It is a bright, spacious Room with high ceilings and tall windows, and looks out over the Terrace Gardens and river. The Sharland combines well with The Academy or The Roadknight nearby for groups or families.

Sarah Schaw Queen Room – Tower

36 sq m – This Room, the original nursery, celebrates Mrs Sharland (nee Sarah Schaw), the wife of the third owner, and the mother of 14 children, and the ceiling offers a ‘window’ into the nanny’s room in the roof cavity above. The Room is 15 steps to the top floor of the central Tower, and is a very private room with no rooms above or beside. It is an enchanting, large hexagonal room looking down on the Terrace Gardens and river. The Sarah Schaw combines well with The Three Bridges or The Roadknight at the bottom of the stairs for groups or families.

Arches King Room – Terrace

44 sq m – This is our largest Room and is available as a King Bed configuration. It is named for the lovely arched recesses along one wall that distinguish it. It is down 15 steps on the lower level with the charm of stone walls and lower ceilings and is a very private room tucked away at the end of the lower corridor. This room opens onto the Wisteria Pergola Terrace with sun lounges, overlooking the river. The Arches combines well with The Lindley or The Alloway Banks for groups or families.

Arches Twin Room – Terrace

44 sq m – This is the same room as the Arches King Room but is available as a Twin Bed configuration. Please see description details under Arches King Room.

Alloway Banks King Spa Suite – Terrace

44 sq m – This Spa Suite with King bed commemorates the Alloway banks, the original Dutch Barn, which was converted into a lovely residence, but was demolished for the new bridge roundabout in 1971. It is on the lower ‘terrace’ floor, and is accessed by 15 stairs to the lower corridor. This suite offers a large bedroom which opens onto the Wisteria Pergola Terrace with sun lounges, overlooking the river, a smaller sitting room with fireplace and a large bathroom with a whirlpool tub. The Alloway Banks combines well with The Lindley, The Academy or The Arches for groups or families.

Three Bridges Signature King Spa Suite

68 sq m – This Spa Suite with King Bed overlooks the bridgehead remains of 3 bridges, including the first 1834 wooden bridge across the Derwent, from which Woodbridge took its name. This is a very private suite, at the end of an entrance corridor, with 5 steps, and no adjacent rooms or rooms above or below. It has two open fireplaces, one in the hexagonal bedroom with high ceilings and tall windows, and another in the Living Room, and has an adjoining Sunroom overlooking the Garden Terrace and river which opens onto the front Garden Terraces with tables and chairs under the almond trees, overlooking the river. The Three Bridges combines well with The Roadknight or The Sarah Schaw for groups or families.

Run of House

Run of The Mansion – 8 rooms/suites, and Exclusive Use of the Ballroom, The Reading Room and The Salon. An additional Owner’s Suite is available if a 9th accommodation is required, and can be booked separately. We also have a list of additional off-site accommodations if required. A minimum stay of 2 days is usually required for Run of House. Please contact Woodbridge to check that all rooms are available before attempting to make your reservation. We will then open up the ROH option on the Booking Page.
