The Arkaba Walk Details

Overview

Set against the backdrop of the Elder Range and Wilpena Pound in South Australia's Flinders Ranges, an Arkaba walking safari is an opportunity to experience the sights and sounds, the scale and the space of outback Australia in a style that is exclusive and authentic. Our 'Wild Bush Luxury' philosophy brings a team of passionate guides and a few key creature comforts to an immersive bush experience.
The first day of the walk takes your clients through the basin of Wilpena Pound before crossing in to Arkaba where the remaining days are spent traversing a wide variety of terrain.
The first two nights of the walk are spent sleeping at our swag camps which are set up in spectacular locations on the property and the third (final) night is spent at the beautifully restored 1850’s Arkaba Homestead.
Swag Camps (Nights 1 & 2 of the Arkaba Walk)
Each camp has five permanent swag decks. The low timber decks are slightly elevated, with a shelter extension to the rear of the deck allowing for guests the option to either sleep under the stars, or under cover. Your bed is a ‘swag’ – the bedding of choice for generations of Australian pioneers, a canvas envelope that is comfy and waterproof, protecting you from the elements. Inside each swag will be an all season’s sleeping bag with liner.
Each camp site has two waterless composting toilets – each in their own little ‘dunny’ shed and strategically located to enjoy the best of the views. Each camp has two bush showers – essentially buckets that will require filling by hand with water warmed on the fire, and equipped with taps to regulate the flow. Some special touches ensure these showers will be a feature of this trip. There is also a covered dining area for meal times in the event of inclement weather.
Arkaba Homestead (Final Night of the Arkaba Walk)
A classic Flinders building with thick stone walls and shady verandahs, the homestead allows guests to experience the natural beauty of Australia’s outback in understated luxury and comfort. Features of the Arkaba Homestead include a library with deep leather armchairs and a large stone fireplace, plus a private open terrace used for canapés at sundown, with breathtaking views out to the ranges beyond.
Four guestrooms are located in the Arkaba Homestead, each with an ensuite bathroom and access to a verandah dotted with lounge chairs, perfect for pursuing Flinders views. The Coachman’s Cottage in the corner of the garden provides a fifth guestroom. Wildlife artist, Rosie Woodford-Ganf has touched each guestroom with her artistic skills and whose own art is prominent throughout the Homestead. The rooms are all air conditioned with a mix of king and twin beds with 500 thread count cotton sheets and a choice of pillows to ensure a great night’s sleep.
