Matanivusi Details

Overview

Named by STOKE in San Diego as the world’s first sustainable surf resort, we also offer a range of health, wellness, and ocean activities. Individual travellers, couples, groups of couples, surfers and non-surfers love our relaxed atmosphere where they can do as much as they like … or as little.
Our emphasis is on our guests – we do everything to make sure they have the best holiday possible:
We specialize in ocean activities. Surfing - offering selected access to seven separate reef breaks including the world-famous Frigates; guided snorkeling, SUP tours and diving.
Architecturally designed, the resort has taken advantage of the natural beauty and is set between a creek and white sandy beach with an amazing lagoon.
12 exclusive rooms offer each guest a similarly deluxe experience, with an above-ground boardwalk to take you to your bure only metres from the ocean.
Deluxe rooms have been created for the tropical getaway with maximum use of glass & louvres, fan cooled, fully screened and mosquito nets. Premium deluxe rooms have A/C.
Spacious enough to incorporate a king size bed or king singles, an ensuite with hot and cold water, and a sitting area and private deck looking over the lagoon.
We place a high priority on the quality of food and service. There is a fully stocked cocktail bar in the restaurant which overlooks the swimming pool, the beach sunset deck and out to the lagoon and surf breaks. We cater to all dietary needs.
The bures are such that with friends or family you can open the adjoining doors or they can be locked – it’s up to you.The rooms can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children (kingbed and two singles). We have cots and child minding available.
The resort has been planned as an eco-resort. The principles being to make as little impact as possible during construction, implement best sustainable operating practices and integration with the local Fijian villagers.
Minimal clearing was done to allow for the main building and the 6 bures. Sited just metres from the sandy beach the buildings are a metre above ground level. Using post and beam construction there has been minimal disturbance to the area. The native vegetation along the beachfront has been maintained and new plantings will protect the beach from any erosion & rising storm surges. There is also a natural rock platform that acts as a buffer to trap the sand on the beach.
For our sewage treatment we use a biolytix waste management system to reduce local pollution and waste. The effluent is used, to provide underground drip irrigation for the garden.
Water conservation. The resort collects rainwater in tanks for use throughout. Recycling programmes ensure that all waste is sorted and disposed of through commercial contractors
Educational programmes for the local primary and secondary schools.
Matanivusi is ideal for any person, and even more fun with a group of friends. Couples love it, and it is perfect for Honeymooners. Romantic dinners are served under the ‘Granddaddy’ tree or on guests’ decks. Although we specialize in surfing, we encourage non-surfers as well. There is always lots to do.
It is also perfect for destination weddings. Couples can choose from simple, private ceremonies to more elaborate ones with Fijian ‘warriors’ and arrival on a bamboo raft. We have had beach weddings, and the backdrop of the huge Banyan tree is quite popular.
The accommodation has been designed to achieve the integration of the natural landscape with the living area. There are large amounts of glass and louvres that allow the cool sea breezes to ventilate the units. Ceiling fans, ensuite bathrooms and a large deck area are features that make the simple designs a pleasure to stay in and only a few steps from the ocean.
The accommodation bures are tucked between a creek at the rear of the building and coconut palms, exotic flowers and plants at the front, then the beach. If you are there at the right time you will be able to pluck a ripe paw paw from the tree near your bure. A large variety of fruit trees are scattered around the resort.
Each bure is divided into 2 separate accommodation areas with their own en suite. The room is tastefully furnished with a king size bed (or 2 king singles), mosquito net for that tropical feel, a coffee table and relaxing chairs. All rooms are screened. The large deck and vast expanses of glass gives each unit breathtaking views of the beach and rainforest, even from the toilet!
