Lake Kora Details

Set amid the spectacular New York Adirondacks, this historic Great Camp features charming luxury lodges set on a thousand-acre private wilderness escape. It is the pure distillation of summertime, of leaping off docks, of gleaming wooden boats plying the private lake and dinners by the grand fireplace.
Once a private playground for the Vanderbilts, Lake Kora invites your family and friends to experience this extraordinary property as a Great Camp of your own for a rejuvenating few days, a week, or a month at a time. A full staffed and all-inclusive rustic paradise.
The main lodge has several rooms, mostly twin-bedded and ideal for younger guests.
On the ground floor are two very special rooms, each with two twin beds, which can be made up as a king bed. The larger, referred to as the “Indian Room,” is often fought over for its décor, which includes many Native American artifacts original to the area. The other is called the “Fort Room,” also with local artifacts. Each room has an en-suite bath with a claw-footed tub, a fireplace, and its own private access from the outside.
Upstairs, the largest of the beamed-ceilinged rooms has a king bed, a large stone fireplace, en-suite bath with claw-footed tub, and views over the lake. Two smaller rooms, one with two twin beds and a view over the lake, and the other with one twin bed, share a bathroom. Each room has a fireplace. An additional space has two twin beds on a porch surrounded by screens, and shares a bath with the king-bedded room.
At once grand and whimsical, the Tree House is certainly the most unique residence on the property. According to Lake Kora lore, it was always the favored residence of the matriarch of the owners’ families, and it’s typically the top choice of modern-day guests as well. The two-bedroom cottage sits a few steps from the Main Lodge. In its large master bedroom, the king bed is topped with an extraordinary headboard crafted from a complete tree, its limbs forming a canopy above the bed. Next to it, stones appear to cascade from a corner, forming an immense fireplace. Woodland creatures peer from corners, while padded seats under the windows encourage wildlife viewing outside as well. Also on the lower level are a living space, dining area, and full kitchen. Upstairs is a queen bedroom and one bathroom with a shower and soaking tub for both bedrooms.
Open, airy, and filled with light, the shoreside one-bedroom Gardener’s Cottage enjoys a stunning view over the lake through its double-height windows. With a stone exterior and blond wood interior, it’s a sunlit sanctuary, located slightly apart from the other buildings and the most private accommodation at Lake Kora other than the Island House. It has a full kitchen, living room, and dining area on the lower level, with a lofted bedroom with wood-burning stove above. Outside, the cottage has a private lakeside stone patio with table and chairs, and its own small dock over the water.
Cozy and country-chic, Cottages 1 and 2 share a rustic, log-cabin mien. Each two-story cottage has two bedrooms on the upstairs level (one queen-bedded, the other with two twin beds), and downstairs, an excellently appointed full kitchen, large dining area, and a living room with a wood-burning stove. In both, an upstairs bath holds a claw-footed tub; the downstairs one a shower. A lake-facing veranda connects the two cottages, with a porch swing in between.
Above the docks on the lower level, the Boathouse has two smartly appointed one-bedroom accommodations. Each has a large open living space with soaring ceilings, double-height windows, a fireplace or wood stove, and doors that open onto a large balcony overlooking the lake. Also on the first floor are a full kitchen, dining table, and a bathroom with jetted tub and stone fireplace. A king bedroom with a fireplace awaits at the top of the stairs, as does a full bath with shower.
On its own small island in the middle of the lake sits the very first building constructed on the property. Accessed only by boat, it is a great destination to explore. Downstairs is a great open room with a large double-sided fireplace in the center and a full kitchen, living space and dining area; doors open to a wraparound deck. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the cottage or on the deck, or curl up and read a book or gather with your family on the deck.
