Kokohuia Lodge Details

A luxury Eco B & B with stunning views of the Hokianga Harbour and sand dunes. Perched above the native bush, and accommodating only one couple, it is sophisticated and private. Relax and recharge to a soundtrack of native birdsong, and go to sleep to the sound of the sea and Moreporks. A romantic escape to remember.
The lodge has been architecturally designed and constructed highly sustainably, inspired by a leaf lying gently on the ground, resting harmoniously in its environment.
We’re proudly off-grid, producing our own solar electricity and solar hot water. The hectare of native bush, maturing orchards and gardens is managed organically.
Delicious breakfasts are prepared using home-grown or local produce wherever possible and dinner is available on request.
Kokohuia Lodge offers you a luxury escape, while still maintaining the highest standards of sustainable living. Exclusively accommodating only one couple, the lodge is both sophisticated and private. Perched high above the native bush, enjoy breathtaking views by day and a panorama of stars by night.
We provide tea and coffee making facilities, using organic and fair trade products. Fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli and freshly squeezed orange juice are provided in your fridge so that you can help yourselves to a breakfast first course at your leisure. We will then deliver a delicious cooked course at a time of your choice. Our breakfasts are prepared using fresh home grown or locally sourced and organic produce wherever possible. We only use free range eggs and free farmed meat products.
Drift off to sleep in the luxurious King Size bed with natural latex matress and integrated Bose iPod dock. We offer a wide selection of pillows to suit your taste and organic cotton linen. The free standing double bath with panoramic views offers an unforgettable experience. There is also a private en-suite with shower. Wireless internet access is available.
There are restaurants and cafes nearby, or we can serve a romantic two course dinner to you in the Lodge. We have a selection of Northland and organically produced wines available.
If you would like to enjoy experiences that are off the beaten track, we host personalised tours and activities.

Kokohuia Lodge has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom featuring pure luxury throughout.

Our electricity is produced by solar panels.
A separate solar system produces almost all our hot water. (An energy efficient gas califont is used very occasionally for top-up on very low light days).
Due to high insulation values, the house requires very little heating. This is provided by an energy efficient flued Rinnai eco gas heater
Rain water for both drinking and washing is collected from the roof and stored under the house. It is double filtered before use.
We have our own on-site vermiculture eco-septic system that treats all black and grey water.
All lighting (internal and external) uses low wattage bulbs.
In order to minimise water and detergent use, we do not routinely offer daily changing of sheets and towels. We encourage guests to carefully consider the environmental impact of their stay.
We launder sheets and towels with environmentally friendly washing powder. Soaps, body wash, shampoo and conditioner are all environmentally friendly, locally produced by ecostore and are free of parabens and sodium laureth sulfate.
