Developed by an architect and designer, Hatherley Birrell Collection seamlessly combines unique heritage and contemporary architecture spanning 180 years, a private eclectic art collection and Tasmanian food and wine all within a boutique art hotel experience.
The Muse Garden Pavilion
Experience the ultimate in design winning accommodation. New to our collection are two garden pavilion rooms within the heritage gardens of Hatherley House. The pavilions are innovative in design, contemporary, eco-friendly retreats inspired by chinese lanterns. They extend the architectural legacy of Hatherley House using the classical concept of the garden folly from 17th-18th century landscape design.

Open the sliding glass wall and find yourself within the canopy of a 150 year old Magnolia tree. The view is breathtaking. This modern addition to the collection offers a heritage garden experience like no other. Art filled and completely modern with origami inspired roof form, moon window, large contemporary glass bathroom and private deck with outdoor bath carved from volcanic stone.

Ballroom
The Ballroom with French doors, high ceilings, spectacular Italianate marble fireplace and original ornate gilt mirror was once the ballroom of Hatherley House, an 1830’s grand home listed on the National Estate Register.
The room has been re-crafted to retain all its original heritage magnificence and style but at the same time transformed into lavish, breathtakingly contemporary art accommodation. The Ballroom Suite showcases artwork inspired by contemporary dance company Tasdance performing ‘Heart Matters’ choreographed by Graeme Murphy and Chrissie Parrott.
Self contained and equipped with a kitchenette and local breakfast provisions. Enjoy the sumptuous modern translucent glass bathroom with spa. Relax on your private balcony, overlooking Ben Lomond mountain and the sheer expanse of Hatherley’s rich and evocative english parkland gardens. Access to this suite is via stairs.

La petite chambre Matisse, housed in the magnificent 1830’s mansion Hatherley House is furnished in the french empire style of the 18th and 19th century and features a rare colour lithograph, “Poemes de Charles d’Orleans” by renowned french impressionist Henri Matisse. A poem discovered on the verso in Matisse’s handwriting, transcribes in 15th Century french Charles d’Orleans poem, has been recreated into a large scale contemporary graphic.
Antique elements are juxtaposed with a lavish and generous modern translucent glass and stainless steel bathroom. Equipped with a kitchenette and local breakfast provisions. From your tall heritage windows enjoy the view of a century old magnolia set in Hatherley’s irresistible gardens.

The Teahouse City Apartment
This modern architecturally designed two bedroom apartment lies hidden in the heart of the heritage city of Launceston.
An incredible location, with a chinoiserie inspiration, the Teahouse uses two courtyards to conceal private but light filled interior spaces. Age old lemon and apple trees give arabesque lines and bountiful fruit to this secluded urban setting.
Oriental in theme featuring an array of antique artworks and curiosities, including an exquisite silk wedding kimono with gold thread embroidery. The open plan layout has a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and glass doors that connect inside and outside areas seamlessly.
