Set amongst native forest, overlooking the Great Ocean Road, Alkina Lodge is your ideal luxury 12 Apostles accommodation. The three architecturally designed, four-bedroom luxury lodges are ideal for couples, families and groups of friends looking to escape to the unspoilt southwest coast of Victoria, who are looking to explore everything the Great Ocean Road region has to offer.
Each lodge has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. When booked you will have the lodge entirely to yourself regardless of whether you are using one or all of the bedrooms. If you want additional space, for example for families, groups of friends, walking retreats, you can book the other lodges. We can then accommodate from 1-24 guests based on double occupancy, or 1-12 guests based on single occupancy. Akina is perfect for couples, but works beautifully for larger groups.
Alkina’s fully self-contained lodges are fitted with only the most luxurious of features, including north facing windows to allow light to pour in, a stunning Gaggenau equipped kitchen, a bespoke wood fireplace, Nespresso coffee machines, Bose entertainment systems, fine European furniture, and a magnificent Villeroy & Boch bathtub with views of the night sky.
The luxury lodges were designed by award winning architects, Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin, and are the only houses in the world they have designed that are available for short stay rental. ‘Touch this earth lightly’ is Glenn Murcutt’s creed, and this is reflected in the architecture of the lodges.
Alkina Lodge is the closest luxury accommodation to the Twelve Apostles on the Great Ocean Road (fifteen minutes drive). It has been designed and built with sensitivity to the local landscape, and compliments the surrounding natural environment. Heating is passively solar, supplemented by gas fired hydronics, underfloor heating in the bathrooms, as well as the bespoke fireplace. The lodges ‘breathe’ and can get chilly, so in winter, please bring appropriate clothing. Likewise, in summer, cooling comes from the southern ocean breeze, expansive screened doors and windows, and venting hot air up through the roof. This is supplemented by Dyson bladeless fans. There is no air-conditioning.
