The town of Stanley is a hidden gem, tucked away on a small peninsular in the far north-eastern corner of Tasmania. The peninsular is all flat farmland on every side, but Stanley sits I the shadow of The Nut – an immense flat-topped volcanic hill towering over the town. You can take the winding path up to the top to enjoy the panoramic views of the town and the sea, or go the easy way on the chairlift.
Stanley’s streets are lined with quaint stone cottages once occupied by some of the area’s earliest European settlers; many of which have been restored and converted into shops, cafes and luxury accommodation. There are beaches on either side of The Nut, lots of wonderful walks, a golf course, and a couple of restaurants to choose from. There’s even a night-time ghost tour to a historic farmhouse at Highfield, a short walk from town.
