The village of Orford lies at the mouth of the River Prosser, beside a large coastal lagoon. Its popularity with holidaymakers is mostly due to the several picturesque beaches in the area, including Raspins, Millingons, Spring and Rheban Beaches. People also come here for the walking, with Old Convicts Road beside the river being especially enjoyable. Bird watchers also come to enjoy several rare species including the critically endangered Fairy Tern. There is also a well-regarded golf course and The Darlington Vineyard which welcomes visitors.
Luxury accommodation is available here, concentrated mostly around the sandy bay area and also further inland along the banks of the river. It’s a small town and so restaurant options are limited, but the larger hotels have restaurants, and there is a small selection of cafes and bars. Gourmet wood-fired pizzas are available at our favourite, Scorchers by The River Gallery Cafe, which also has a licensed bar.
